Goodstart Brisbane Adelaide Street

Ni hao! My name is Yiwen Yang from Shanghai, China, also known as Eva. I have completed Bachelor of Primary Education at the University of Queensland and Master of Teaching (Primary/Early Years) at Monash University. 
 
My Background 
In 2011, I moved to Brisbane alone and graduated from the Foundation School of UQ, which marks the starting point of my teaching journey. Throughout my 6-year studies, I have been to many Primary schools, childcare centre and community kindergartens in Brisbane and Melbourne for my placements. Upon graduation, I started working as a full-time Kindergarten teacher for more than 4 years until I came to Adelaide Street as the Assistant Director in 2023.
 
My Early Childhood Philosophy  
Central to my philosophy is recognising the importance of each child’s socio-cultural background which includes a number of contributors – themselves, their families, educators and teachers and the local communities. Embracing Australia's rich cultural diversity, I value each child's unique 'funds of knowledge' and strive to help them become culturally competent members of the modern society. Early Childhood lays the essential groundwork for children’s lifelong learning and wellbeing as their brains are developing rapidly. To be able to activate young children’s schemata, I am committed to building strong collaborations with their families to spark children’s interest and extend on their learning. For our children to start strong in the first five years in their lives, I actively seek to look through a child-centred lens to inform our team’s practices, environments and decisions.  
 
What I Love Most about Goodstart 
As the largest not-for-profit organisation in Early Childhood sector, Goodstart has been fostering positive social changes in Australia and continues to advocate for the best possible start in life for children across the country, especially the ones in low socio-economic areas.
