When assistant director Emma Bowles joins the team at Goodstart Early Learning’s brand new centre on Adelaide St in Brisbane, she will bring plenty of experience with her.
The 28-year-old opened a new centre at Double Bay, Sydney, 14 months ago and is proud of her achievements on the project. During her time there, she saw the enrolments increase from just two children per day, to more than 100 children every day.
“When I look back on how far we have come and the community we have created, I feel very proud,” Ms Bowles said.
“But when the opportunity arose to go back to Brisbane and be a part of the Adelaide Street opening, I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of.
“I hope to use the knowledge and experience I have gained during this opening to help support my CD and team in establishing the Adelaide Street Centre as the early learning provider of choice in the Brisbane CBD.“
Floor to ceiling glass, a roof-top playground and heritage-listed façade are all features of what will the largest early learning centre ever opened by Goodstart Early Learning.
The 207-place centre, which will open its doors in mid June this year, will feature a custom-built design includes a mechanically-controlled sky light.
The private rooftop play space, will create a natural oasis within the heart of Brisbane city.
“I’m really looking forward to working within this new building and think the facilities on offer will be fantastic,” Ms Bowles said. “For me, as the educational leader of the three to five years olds, it’s going to be a great challenge but one that I really can’t wait for.”
She said building connections with the families, and the greater community, will be one of the biggest challenges she will face in the first few months of opening.
Ms Bowles, who was born in Mackay but has worked for Goodstart in Brisbane, said she hopes to use the knowledge and experience she has gained in Double Bay to establish the Adelaide Street Centre as the early learning provider of choice in the Brisbane CBD.
“My vision for any early learning service that I have worked in is that there are infinite opportunities for children, families, educators and the community to learn and develop together.
“My personal philosophy centres on this with a strong focus also on establishing authentic and meaningful connections with all of the above. This is what influences my programs and practice and are the things I am most passionate about.”
She will also be looking forward to spending time with her extended Brisbane family, and once the centre is successfully up and running, planning her next holiday.
“I really love travelling and make it a priority outside of work,” Ms Bowles said. “I have been to south east Asia and South Africa, and lived in England for six months working as a nanny in the country side which was amazing.”
