Care packages feature good Aussie staples

Goodstart centres

Sending care packages to soldiers on deployment with the Australian Defence Force is just one of the initiatives the team at Goodstart Hillside has started.

As part of their ANZAC commemorations, educators at the centre have been collecting donations from parents to send overseas, and artwork from the children.

Hillside centre director Misty Carter said they came up with the idea because they wanted to support soldiers on deployment.

“We’ve had such a great response from our centre’s parents so far and we’ve already sent two boxes overseas,” Ms Carter said.

“Our children have also created artwork for the soldiers so they know we are thinking about them and that we appreciate everything they do.”

Items sent include Australian favourites such as Mars Bars, Vegemite and Tim Tams.

“We wanted to let the children know that the soldiers overseas are doing it tough and that getting a little taste of home can really help them,” Ms Carter said.  “It’s real comfort food that will help them get through the tough times.”

Those wanting to participate can send care packages, with free postage under two kilograms, to:
