Goodstart gives big to little bubs and their mums

This year Goodstart Dundowran is going above and beyond to give back to their local community.

Leading up to Easter, they have focused their efforts on fundraising and bringing awareness to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Hervey Bay Hospital (NICU), who provide vital care for premature and sick babies in the community.

Goodstart senior educator Alysia Jeppesen said they were lucky to have one of their mums at the centre working as a midwife in NICU who helped to create a ‘wish list’ of items for Goodstart to collect.

“Having a wish list of items we could collect to give to families at the hospital was so helpful and was an amazing starting point for our fundraising efforts. We have been overwhelmed with the generosity, compassion and support from our families, local business owners and the wider community who we have reached out to help us with our collection,” Alysia said.

“We have 20 beautiful Easter-themed gift bags to present to mothers in the neonatal intensive care unit and the maternity ward, so we hope this will bring a little joy and love and to show how much we care, and how much the whole community cares.”

The gift bags contain a number of items, including beautiful hand-knitted items lovingly made by the Toogoom Knitting Ladies, a Hervey Bay McDonalds voucher, a Natalie Rocke Photography voucher, and a handmade bunny comforter toy made by a local designer, Sammie K Designs.

A team from Goodstart will don their Easter bunny ears and make a special visit to the midwifery team at the Hervey Bay Hospital on Friday 7 April to donate the gift bags.
