Every Thursday, the children from Goodstart Clayton put on their walking shoes and take a stroll around the corner with their educators to Bupa Aged Care Clayton.
The visit is part of a community engagement program which aims to bring a little bit of love and cheer to the aged care residents.
Clayton centre director Kashmira Bhathena said becoming a part of the community was very important to the centre.
“We really enjoy our community and the people in it and are committed to spending time with the people in it,” Ms Bhathena said.
“We want to expose our children to diversity as they learn about different age groups and different ways of live. We want the children to show their compassion and share their love and enthusiasm for life.”
She said many of the children at the centre didn’t have their own grandparent nearby so the children enjoyed spending time with the elderly residents, reading them books, singing, painting and doing art.
“It’s all about teaching the children about empathy and having respect for the elderly residents. And the elderly residents enjoy spending time with the children.”
