International early learning researchers visit Goodstart Brookvale

Goodstart centres

Hosting a group of touring academics from the Netherlands and Denmark was all in a day’s work for Goodstart Brookvale centre director Heidi Webb.

The tour group was headed up by Dr Sandie Wong, a leading early childhood academic from Charles Sturt University, and Goodstart’s national lead practice research.

The group visited the centre to gather research and talk about how early learning centres operate throughout Australia.

“It was a great experience to host the academics and find out what their areas of expertise were,” Ms Webb said. “We spent about two hours talking about Goodstart, and the changing face of early learning in 2016.”

Dr Wong plans to build on Goodstart’s evidence-informed practice and strengthen the organisation’s research capacity to foster improvements and outcomes for children’s learning, development and well-being.

“The benefits of high quality early learning are real and long-lasting and make a fundamental difference to children from vulnerable backgrounds,” Dr Wong said.

As part of the research fellow, Dr Wong will work with academics, such as those from the Netherlands and Denmark, to translate national and international evidence into everyday practice within centres.

The work will allow Dr Wong to work with Goodstart educators to draw on their experience, build on their practice and continue research and literature in the early childhood sector to ensure the best outcomes for children are offered.
