Playgroup Queensland boosts program

Goodstart centres

Developing social and emotional skills, sharing music and games and enjoying healthy physical play were all on the agenda when Playgroup Queensland visited Goodstart Gracemere.

During terms three and four, Playgroup Queensland facilitator Pam Waine visited the centre, helping the children develop their fine and gross motor skills.

Gracemere centre director Kim Munns said Playgroup Queensland’s teachings mirrored many of the learnings important to Goodstart Early Learning.

“And that’s one of the main reasons we applied for the program,” Ms Munns said.

“I really liked their way of thinking and found that it was very similar to Goodstart’s values. It meant our learnings were being reinforced, and for the staff, that was a benefit. “

Children in the kindergarten and toddler rooms took part in the program.

“One of the main things I noticed was that the children were really encouraged to explore and try different foods which was great. It was also really good for the children’s social and emotional skills.”

The program also aims to offer opportunities for children to experience healthy physical play through games and music, and to support parents and carers to build their knowledge and understanding of healthy play activities through take-home resource packs.
