To help spread a message of hope, and encourage other childcare centres and schools in the community to get involved, Goodstart Oxenford – Riversdale Road has joined with Cancer Council Queensland to celebrate 30 years of Daffodil Day.
A number of Goodstart centres in the Gold Coast area took part, transforming their environments yellow to provide a colourful backdrop for a worthwhile cause.
Goodstart Oxenford – Riversdale Road centre director Tameika Smith said supporting the community was important to educators and staff at the centre.
“Goodstart has been a proud supporter of the Cancer Council for many years. They do such an incredible job helping to fund research and treatment options for those suffering from life-threatening cancer,” Ms Smith.
“Getting behind Daffodil Day is a great way to show how much we care. It’s also a great message to share with young children about the importance of caring for others. We jumped at the chance to decorate the centre yellow and really wanted to make this a bright and happy day for everyone.
“We are very fortunate and incredibly grateful for the support of our families who have generously contributed to our fundraising and awareness campaigns over the years.”
Cancer Council Queensland spokesperson Katie Clift encouraged Queenslanders to support someone they know by getting involved.
“A bright splash of yellow does more than light up the community – it means we are taking active steps to beat cancer and to show our support to those affected,” Ms Clift said.
“More than 26,000 Queenslanders will be diagnosed with cancer this year alone, and about 8600 will die from the disease – we need to do all we can to support those impacted by this disease.”
Cancer Council Queensland will celebrate 30 years of Daffodil Day during the entire month of August, with the official day falling on Friday, August 26.
