New mothers group in Clayfield supports first-time parents

A new mothers group established at Goodstart Clayfield is providing parents with a valuable support group where they can mix with other first-time mums while their children play together.

Held once every three weeks on Saturday mornings at Goodstart Clayfield from 8.30am to 10.30am, the mothers group is free for all parents with children aged from birth up to two years of age.

Goodstart Clayfield centre director Sara Pearce, who has worked in the early learning sector since 2008, said they set up the mothers group to support first-time families in their local community.

“For many parents, especially first time mums and dads, parenthood can feel overwhelming or isolating, despite the excitement that comes with bringing a new baby into the world,” Ms Pearce said.

“This is where a parent or mothers group can provide an extra layer of support particularly for those who may not have a large family support group or live close by to family or friends,” she said.

The room where the group meets has age appropriate resources for little ones to play and explore and parents can talk with three early childhood educators, who between them have over 20 years’ experience working with children 0-24 months-old.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for first-time mums to come together and share their experiences while providing a safe space for children to play. As educators, we can hopefully provide some good insights based on our vast experience and help to answer any tricky questions to alleviate the anxiety new mums might have,” she said.

Parents interested in attending can contact Sara at Goodstart Clayfield on 3262 8300 or reach out to the group via their Facebook page.
