Nappy collection to support Mackay mums in need

Nappy collection to support Mackay mums in need

If you have any unused disposable nappies, now is the time to put them to a good cause.

Goodstart centres in Mackay are this year supporting The Nappy Collective – a not-for-profit business which collects leftover unused nappies and redistributes them to organisations that support families in crisis or in need.

The nappy collection officially runs from May 5-19, with 340 drop-off locations across 50 cities and towns right across Australia.

Goodstart Eimeo has a collection box in the centre on Old Eimeo Road and has already started receiving donations from local families.

Centre director Tamika Bidgood said it was their first year supporting The Nappy Collective and they were looking forward to getting the whole community involved.

“Any nappies we receive as part of our collection will be donated to Mackay Women’s Centre, so this really is a very local and worthwhile charitable act to be involved in, and one close to our hearts,” Ms Bidgood said.

“We know that babies require between six and eight nappies a day, and for families who might be doing it tough, a lack of sufficient nappies can create an enormous financial burden and additional stress for disadvantaged families.

“By donating nappies, you will be helping families including homeless mothers and young mothers in need to ensure they have access to this vital basic healthcare need.”

For those wishing to support this initiative, please drop in to Goodstart Eimeo on 5-9 Old Eimeo Road with your clean, unused disposable nappies. Store bought nappies in packaging will also be warmly received.
