Community partnership a winner at Hillside

Goodstart centres

Taking part in a music program is helping children at Goodstart Hillside build their language and communication skills, socio-economic skills, self-confidence and self-awareness.

Goodstart Hillside has partnered with the Melton City Council to run a program within the centre called Busy Bees. It invites families and carers with children under five years of age, to spend an hour in the centre to focus on children’s language skills by learning songs, rhymes and stories in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Goodstart Hillside centre director Diana Aquilina said the initiative was a great way to contribute to the community and link in with services provided for children and families.

“We wanted to support the learning, development, and well-being of all children and families within our community, so we decided to invite the Melton City Council to come and run the Busy Bees program within our centre,” Ms Aquilina said.

“The Busy Bees program has many benefits for children including learning language and communication skills, social-emotional skills, as well as building their self-confidence and self-awareness. During the sessions the children are introduced into the wonderful world of stories, songs and rhymes.”

“There are also many benefits for parents and carers who attend the program, such as making new friends, growing their support network, and learning new songs and stories they can share with their children at home,” she said.

Building a strong standing within the community is a focus for the centre and their success has been reflected in the positive partnership they have formed with the Melton City Council.

“The connections we’ve built with the council are helping us enhance children’s learning and well-being as well as strengthening our relationships with families within the wider community,” Ms Aquilina said. “It’s also helping us promote our service and the fantastic educational programs we offer.”
