Goodstart Early Learning’s Let’s Get Wild About Safety campaign has been highly commended in the International Safety Media Awards.

The awards, which were presented in Bangkok on November 4, highlight the work of media experts from throughout the world who strive to make the world a healthier place.

Let’s Get Wild About Safety was a Goodstart communication campaign launched in Safe Work Month in 2017 which highlighted the big five hazards in the workplace, and how to survive them. It was highly commended in the best communication of a safety campaign category.

With colourful animal graphics and catchy taglines, the campaign caught the attention of all employees who responded to the call to action.

National safe work and wellbeing manager Kylie Warren-Wright said she entered the awards because, as a not-for-profit organisation, and Australia’s largest provider of early learning centres, it was important to share our safety expertise within the sector both in Australia and internationally.

“We can’t do what we do best if our people are injured so safety is our number one priority,” Ms Warren-Wright said. “And our children need safe places to develop, grow and learn to take risks.”

The awards recognize high quality safety media from around the world and will bring together 1500-2000 of the world’s leading injury prevention researchers, practitioners, policy makers and advocates to discuss the application of best practices, policies and programs worldwide.

Award executive director Marcia Howell said more than 400 entries were received from 42 countries in the categories of audio, print, short videos, ultra-short videos, online/web-based, campaign and evaluation methodology and outcomes.

“I am honoured to have the opportunity to learn from media experts from around the world, who strive to make the world a safer healthier place,” Ms Howell said.

“Each year I am impressed by the growth and maturing of the safety media field, both in the quality of production and in state of the art evaluation methodology. I am looking forward to sharing this year’s award winning media at 2018 ISMA.”

The awards were presented as part of the Child Injury Prevention and the Sustainable Development Goals Safety 2018 pre-conference with the gold, silver and bronze announced at the closing ceremony. Goodstart’s campaign was shown as an official selection at the Safety 2018 World Conference.
