Children from the kindergarten room at Goodstart Glass House Mountains have joined forces with the local primary school to build two scarecrows - Jimmy and Doug.
Part of the annual scarecrow competition run by Beerwah Charity Sports and Spring Carnival, Jimmy and Doug (pictured below with kindergarten children Kai and Sienna) didn't take out the winning glory in the hotly-contested competition.
But Goodstart Glass House Mountains centre director Carla Schultz said it was a great experience for children.
“We love being involved in our community and were very excited to get behind the scarecrow competition for the second year running. Children loved learning all about what scarecrows are used for, where they originated from and what materials we needed to make these. It was a great sensory and creative project for them,” Mrs Schultz said.
“At Goodstart, we are very proud of the role we play in connecting with and supporting our local community. As educators, we are continually creating opportunities to enhance children’s learning outcomes and develop their social development skills.
“The scarecrow competition was a great way to engage their minds and develop their sense of community. We look forward to coming up with something bigger and better next year,” she said.
Jimmy and Doug are still proudly on display at the centre where the children and educators alike continue to take pride in their creation.
