Goodstart's Victorian Kindergarten Program tops the class

At Goodstart we know that quality early education changes lives, which is why we are committed to investing in our programs and our people to ensure that Victorian children get the best possible start in life.

Kindergarten in particular is an important year for children, setting them up for their school life ahead.

In fact, the evidence shows that access to a high quality early learning program in the year before school halves the chance of a child starting school with a developmental vulnerability, which is why Goodstart invests so highly in our education programs and quality teaching programs.

“Goodstart is committed to investing in children and families, we are not for profit and invest all of our funds back into our centres and the teams that support our centres,” Goodstart Victorian state manager Paul Ryan said.

“In fact, we invested $18 million last year to give our teachers and educators access to professional development, support, mentoring and the most up-to-date research so that they could provide high quality education and care to children and families,” he said.

All of which has paid off, with Goodstart’s Victorian Kindergarten Program leading both the sessional kindergartens and the long daycare sector in Victoria in the National Quality Standard benchmark for childhood education and care (ACECQA, March 2018).

“As Victoria’s largest provider of kindergarten programs and one of the largest employers of teachers outside the Victorian State Government, continuing to invest in this area is an absolute priority for Goodstart,” he said.

Goodstart Early Learning Bundoora Bendoran Crescent Early Childhood Teacher Kate Fisher said the quality of Goodstart’s Kindergarten Program was a major coup for families who attend Goodstart centres.

“As well as the flexibility we offer around drop-off and pick-up times, family feedback tells us that the quality programs delivered by our qualified and skilled teachers are really valued by our families,” she said.

“We use the National Quality Framework and the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework to support us to develop a quality program that provides each child with a personalised approach based on their specific needs and interests.

“It is also the strong network of teachers across Goodstart and the support that we receive from each other and from a range of professional development programs that stands us apart,” she said.

“We can draw on each other’s expertise, ideas and resources to develop the highest quality programs for our Kindergarten children.”

Continuity was also another huge benefit for families enrolled in Goodstart’s Kindergarten Program, Mrs Fisher said.

“Often if our families have attended our centre by the time the children are enrolled in our Kindergarten Program we will already have built a relationship and connection with them and their families,” she said.

“A lot of our families love that sense of community that is already established by the time their children are in our Kindergarten Program.”

Within Victoria more than 4000 children are enrolled in a Goodstart Kindergarten Program across 173 centres.
