New playground for East Perth

Goodstart centres

Children and families at Goodstart East Perth are enjoying their new playground which has been upgraded with a $150,000 makeover.

Children, families, educators and a Nature Play representative were bought together to create the new playground which features monkey bars, climbing equipment, a water feature, large sandpits and lots of natural materials.

Centre director Lela Mrdak said the playground also had plenty of shaded areas for children to engage, imagine, play and learn.

“I am so thrilled that children have a natural space to play, learn, imagine and discover. I am so excited to see the children being physically active on the climbing frames and sitting in the shade exploring books,” she said.

“The new playground is very versatile and we’re lucky to have large open spaces in the middle of the city and it encourages children to explore and take on challenges to test their skills and abilities.”

Outdoor spaces allow children to run, jump and skip which helps with gross motor skills, balance, hand-eye coordination and concentration.

It also helps increase their flexibility and develops muscle strength and promotes social and emotional development.

Goodstart Early Learning is a not-for-profit which has upgraded more than 500 of its 644 centres in the past three years. More than $200 million has been invested in the past three years to upgrade its existing centres.
