Breakfast club a hit at Hope Valley

Goodstart centres

Creating a loving, secure environment for children from all walks of life is the aim of Goodstart Hope Valley centre director Katice Martin.

In fact, she is so keen to welcome the children to the centre with open arms, she has set up a breakfast club to ensure everyone has a decent breakfast.

“We have many children who might arrive at the centre who haven’t had breakfast, or parents who are commuting to work and haven’t had time to sit down,” Ms Martin said.

“This offers them the chance to get out the door a little bit earlier and the children love sitting down with their friends and enjoying a good start to the day.”

Ms Martin said creating new routines and rituals for children helped them feel safe and secure.

“Our focus is on addressing all of our families’ needs and making sure their children do get the best chance in life,” Ms Martin said.

“There is evidence that shows that the early years are the most important for children so it’s essential for us to provide nutritious food in a nurturing, loving environment.

“We want to give children the knowledge that wonderful relationships and connections are possible.”

The 103-place centre has a large outdoor play space with lots of natural play areas. There are vegetable gardens, sandpits, a deck area, cubby house, worm farm and compost.

“Many of our families are now on their second or third child at the centre so we know their families well and really enjoy greeting their new additions,” Ms Martin said.
