About our centre

Goodstart Early Learning Roma is located centrally in our beautiful rural town of Roma. Community is fundamental to our service as we proudly value children as being the heart of everything we do.

Our service is open Monday to Friday 6am – 6pm, 52 weeks a year (excluding public Holidays). We cater for 74 children daily from six weeks to 5years, with an approved Kindergarten program that assists in supporting the transition of children to school. All children are provided nutritious meals daily which are cooked in centre by our talented centre cook.

Our early learning context supports scaffolding children’s learning and development through quality interactions with peers, educators, families and community services. In the overall attempt to pave the way for an exploratory understanding of themselves, the world around them and their place in it (Being, Belonging, Becoming). Our educational programs are reflective of emergent curriculum and adhere to guidelines set by ACECQANational Quality FrameworkThe Early Years Learning Framework and Queensland Kindergarten Guidelines.

Our philosophy is underpinned by the foundation that each child is unique, naturally creative, capable and masters in their learning journey. Our approach fosters children’s interests, language and development and is led by connection with children, families, and the wider community. We value to support all children. We take a holistic and inclusive approach to caring for and educating our children and foster our foundation of learning through relationship connection, our ‘key educator’ approach.

Our educators endeavour to create a setting in which children will develop a sense of safety, security, and support. Our early learning environments encourage opportunities for self discovery, supporting children's individual needs, interests, and abilities. We believe all children have the right to be treated equally and with respect, regardless of race, language, ability, or gender. We acknowledge the value of establishing a purposeful alliance with children's families and are committed to working together with families to co create productive relationships. We understand that children learn best when the program reflects their interests and has meaning for them personally and plan our program based on careful observations of each child’s individual knowledge, ideas, culture, abilities, and interests. We believe outdoor education fosters a sense of community and adventure, encourages exploration, risk taking and fosters caring for nature. We understand that learning can spark within the magic of moments every day and it is our job to “enable each moment, as it’s an unknown journey and will never be repeated”.

We believe in developing our philosophy alongside families, children, educators and community members. We are committed to role modelling and teaching children to care and respect the land in which they learn and play, through connection and acknowledgement of country and the traditional landowners, the Mandandanji people, through embedded daily practices and cultural incursions, to enrich children’s awareness and sense of connection.

Sharon Egginton

Centre Director

Hello, my name is Sharon Egginton, and I am the Centre Director of Goodstart Roma.

I have been in the Early Years sector for over 18 years, with 8 of those years in a management position. I hold my Diploma in Early Childhood Education, and I am in my last year of studying my Bachelor of Education. I have been working at Goodstart within the management team for the last 5 years and have built so many strong relationships in this time.

As an educator, I believe in providing high quality care, guided by the National Quality Framework and the Early years Framework. I strongly believe that your child’s first experiences in Early childhood education should be positive as it establishes their attitude for learning for their whole life. I believe in upholding strong partnerships with families by building strong reciprocal relationships to ensure the best outcome for the children.

I believe children have the right to feel safe and respected throughout their time spent in the Early Years sector, Children are competent learners and when provided with an enrich, high quality environment children, allows children to build and enhance life skills that will shape their identity. As a Leader I believe that a strong team who is passionate about providing the best care and education make the Centre a place that families want to enroll their children in. As a Leader I am passionate about creating an environment that makes all Educators feel valued and heard, building a service that is as much mine as it is everyone else’s.

I look forward to meeting you and being a part of your child’s early education!
