Safety at Goodstart - The Tangible Difference

Goodstart centres

Not many days pass by without Goodstart Early Learning’s Chief Safety Officer, Todd Dawson’s reminding the team at Goodstart that ‘our centres and our great people are at the forefront of providing safe, nurturing environments for children, which ensure our families feel confident about their child’s wellbeing while in our care.’

It is Goodstart’s robust protocols that make a tangible difference in keeping children, their families and our team safe by creating a secure atmosphere that fostering healthy development.

Safety first - What you will see at your Goodstart Early Learning centre

When you visit a Goodstart Early Learning centre, you’ll notice key elements that reflect Goodstart’s commitment to safety.

Here’s what to expect:

  1. Secure Entry Systems: As soon as you approach, you’ll see controlled entry points. Only authorised parents, guardians, and staff can access the centre through our secure system, which includes child-proof gates and a private keypad entry-code to open the door.
  2. Well-Maintained Environment: The overall cleanliness and organisation of the centre supports our safety measures, we know that when play areas, learning environments, and dining spaces are clean, sanitised regularly, and well-maintained we reduce the risk of illness or injury.
  3. Child-Friendly Design: You’ll notice that the centre is designed with child safety in mind—soft play areas, child-sized furniture, and rounded corners on tables and counters to prevent bumps, falls and injuries.
  4. Visible Safety Signs: You’ll see safety instructions and signage throughout our centre. Emergency exits are clearly marked, and evacuation plans are posted in each room. Fire alarms and extinguishers will be easily identifiable, and staff are trained to use them.
  5. Outdoor Play Areas: Our outdoor spaces have secure fencing, ensuring children remain safely within the premises. Play equipment is carefully selected and regularly inspected for safety, with soft-fall surfaces beneath climbing frames or swings to minimise injury.
  6. Supervision: One of the most important things you’ll notice is the high level of supervision. Staff-to-child ratios are maintained to ensure each child receives appropriate attention. Educators are always nearby, closely watching and interacting with children to ensure their safety.
  7. First Aid Readiness: Staff members are certified in first aid and CPR, and there will be visible first aid kits located throughout the centre.
  8. Staff safety training: Every Goodstart employee must complete mandatory training on all areas of safety, supervision and safeguarding children from abuse, neglect and harm.
  9. Safety first culture: Our centre teams are skilled in first aid, incident response, administering medication, food allergens, infection control and transporting children.

Todd stated ‘it is these features demonstrate that Goodstart Early Learning prioritises the safety and wellbeing of your child and our team. They create a reassuring space for families, where children are cared for in a safe, secure, and hygienic environment, allowing parents to focus on their day with confidence.’
