About our centre

Goodstart Early Learning Roma is located centrally in our beautiful rural town of Roma. Community is fundamental to our service as we proudly value children as being the heart of everything we do.

Our service is open Monday to Friday 6am – 6pm, 52 weeks a year (excluding public Holidays). We cater for 74 children daily from six weeks to 5years, with an approved Kindergarten program that assists in supporting the transition of children to school. All children are provided nutritious meals daily which are cooked in centre by our talented centre cook.

Our early learning context supports scaffolding children’s learning and development through quality interactions with peers, educators, families and community services. In the overall attempt to pave the way for an exploratory understanding of themselves, the world around them and their place in it (Being, Belonging, Becoming). Our educational programs are reflective of emergent curriculum and adhere to guidelines set by ACECQANational Quality FrameworkThe Early Years Learning Framework and Queensland Kindergarten Guidelines.

Our philosophy is underpinned by the foundation that each child is unique, naturally creative, capable and masters in their learning journey. Our approach fosters children’s interests, language and development and is led by connection with children, families, and the wider community. We value to support all children. We take a holistic and inclusive approach to caring for and educating our children and foster our foundation of learning through relationship connection, our ‘key educator’ approach.

Our educators endeavour to create a setting in which children will develop a sense of safety, security, and support. Our early learning environments encourage opportunities for self discovery, supporting children's individual needs, interests, and abilities. We believe all children have the right to be treated equally and with respect, regardless of race, language, ability, or gender. We acknowledge the value of establishing a purposeful alliance with children's families and are committed to working together with families to co create productive relationships. We understand that children learn best when the program reflects their interests and has meaning for them personally and plan our program based on careful observations of each child’s individual knowledge, ideas, culture, abilities, and interests. We believe outdoor education fosters a sense of community and adventure, encourages exploration, risk taking and fosters caring for nature. We understand that learning can spark within the magic of moments every day and it is our job to “enable each moment, as it’s an unknown journey and will never be repeated”.

We believe in developing our philosophy alongside families, children, educators and community members. We are committed to role modelling and teaching children to care and respect the land in which they learn and play, through connection and acknowledgement of country and the traditional landowners, the Mandandanji people, through embedded daily practices and cultural incursions, to enrich children’s awareness and sense of connection.

Leisha Chadwick

Centre Director

Hi, I’m Leisha Chadwick and I’m the Centre Director here at Goodstart Roma.

I have over 10 years of experience working in the childcare industry, 6 of which have been with Goodstart.  During this time I have experienced working in all age groups, and has supported Goodstart Roma for the last 2 years as acting Assistant Director/ 3IC.

It is my philosophy that each child is a unique individual with infinite capacity for learning and as educators it is our responsibility to value and develop each child’s strength, interests, skills, abilities and knowledge to extend their learning.  Children have a right to feel safe, supported and encouraged as they begin/ continue their learning journeys and for us as a team it is important to provide a rich learning environment to support this within our centre.

“The team is warm and positive, they give me such certainty that sending my kids there is the absolute best thing for them.”
