About our centre

Welcome to Goodstart Semaphore Park

We are conveniently located on Bower Road, nestled in a quiet corner of the community. Surrounded by key local amenities like Bower Cottage Community Centre, Portside Christian College, and Port Plaza, our centre is easily accessible with a bus stop right at our doorstep.

We’re more than a childcare centre – we’re a small, vibrant community where children and families feel at home. Our warm, welcoming environment is created by a dedicated team of educators who provide consistent, nurturing care and a true sense of belonging for every child.

What are our Centre environments like?

Outdoor Spaces Designed for Discovery: Our outdoor areas are thoughtfully designed to spark imagination and exploration, featuring large shade-giving trees, a sensory garden, and an Aboriginal garden bed co-created with Uncle Tamaru and our families. These spaces teach children about sustainability and environmental care.
Unique Outdoor Learning Experiences: We offer preschool gardening excursions to the Bower Cottage Community Centre and natural walks for our nursery children to nearby parks, providing hands-on opportunities to connect with nature.
Cultural Diversity and Community Engagement: We celebrate diversity daily through language support and cultural understanding. Our strong community partnerships enrich children’s experiences with visits from the Mobile Library and opportunities to explore sustainable vegetable gardens and bee hives.

At Goodstart Semaphore Park, our philosophy centres around the belief that every child is a unique individual with their own interests and strengths. We embrace a play-based learning approach that nurtures curiosity and creativity, allowing children to explore their world in meaningful ways.
We prioritise:
1. Holistic Development: Supporting cognitive, emotional, social, and physical growth through engaging and developmentally appropriate activities.

Through our philosophy, we aim to create a safe, nurturing environment where children can thrive and become confident, capable learners.
Children need to feel safe and supported to learn and grow, so we promote key educator relationships between our educators and children. Your child will have at least one educator (their key educator) who takes them under their wing and really gets to know them.
Our Key Educator relationships help children form secure attachments. Educators work closely with smaller groups and individual children to better understand each child. These relationships lead to improved outcomes for children as we foster more communication between families and educators.
We inform families regularly about their child's progress and welcome family involvement in our centre events and activities.  
At Goodstart, we believe all children deserve the best possible start in life, which includes access to high-quality early childhood education and care. We offer:

We work closely with parents to ensure the individual needs, interests and strengths of the children are considered, developing learning goals to reflect the same. My husband and I started our daughter at Goodstart Early Learning Semaphore Park in February this year. We were scared, hesitant and sad to see her go off to start being independent, creating friendships and learn more than we could offer at home. At first we were worried she wouldn't want to stay, but quickly learnt after our initial visit, she actually didn't want to leave . Shan and her team are absolutely amazing . She gave us a thorough tour of the centre, explained everything from kitchen, dietary allergies, to good, cooked meals daily and alot more. We loved it was a smaller centre with more opportunity for our daughter to learn and have more time with her teachers . They immediately made us feel welcome and like we were part of the family for years. She will also continue on with Kindy there as I'm so happy with how she's been progressing, not to mention she loves her friends and teacher. Thank you Shan and your team for looking after our girl, welcoming our family and for being super patient and helpful throughout the whole admission process. Highly recommend.

Centre Director

Hello, I’m Shanshan Peng, and I’m proud to be the Centre Director at Goodstart Semaphore Park.

I’ve been with Goodstart for 11 years, having spent 10 years as a Kindergarten Teacher, one year as a Teacher Mentor, and two years in a Centre Leadership Role.

My passion lies in building strong, trusting relationships with children, focusing on their social and emotional well-being. I firmly believe that positive relationships are the foundation of a child’s development. I am deeply committed to creating rich learning environments that support and nurture children’s growth and learning.

Collaboration, respect, and kindness are core values that guide my practice. I know that fostering collaborative relationships between children, families, and team members is essential to providing high-quality early childhood education.

I am dedicated to developing reciprocal relationships with everyone at Goodstart Semaphore Park – from the children and their families to our exceptional team. I look forward to meeting you and working together to build meaningful connections that will support our children’s success.
