10 easy indoor activities

Early learning

It’s winter, which means the days are getting colder and shorter. Here’s 10 easy indoor activity ideas the kids are guaranteed to love!

  1. Freeze

Put on your favourite tunes and when the music stops everyone needs to freeze!
  2. Simon Says

An oldie but a goodie. One player takes the role of "Simon" and issues instructions, e.g.  'touch your head' or 'jump in the air' to the other players, which should only be followed if prefaced with the phrase "Simon says".
  3. Sock toss

Grab a laundry basket and some balled up socks and see how many they can get in!
  4. Colourful bath time

On a cold winter day there is nothing better than a nice warm bubble bath.  Add a couple of drops of natural food colouring to make it super fun bath time!
  5. Cardboard car track

Find an old cardboard box lying around and flatten it out. Draw a car track on it and watch how much fun they have!

  6. Scavenger hunt

Write a list of 10 things they need to collect from around the house.
  7. Obstacle course

Create your own indoor obstacle course - use pillows, build a cave with chairs and a sheet, jump over wooden spoons – the options are endless!
  8. Dot drawing

Great for working those fine motor muscles. All you need is sticky dots, paper and a pen! Depending on the age of your child an alternative is to have them connect all the same coloured dots!

  9. Sand letter drawing

Pour some sand into a tray and have them draw pictures or practise their ABCs.

  10. See how many ways you can get from one side of the room to the others

A great one to burn off energy if they've been cooped up all day. See how many different ways you can get from one side of the room to the other – skip, hop, crawl, slide. The options are endless!
