About our centre

Welcome to Goodstart Semaphore South!

Welcome to Goodstart Semaphore South! We’re your local early learning centre catering to children from babies to toddlers and preschool. You’ll find us located near the northern beaches of Adelaide, close to local schools, community services, shops and transport routes.

We have four early childhood teachers among our staff who lead preschool curriculum based on the Early Years Framework so your child can start reception confidently.

Our centre is on Bower Road, near Semaphore South Beach and local Indigenous cultural centres. Port Adelaide Plaza Shopping Centre and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital are just a short drive away.

During your tour, you’ll see our beautiful natural environments, where we teach children about caring for Country.

You’ll also meet our longstanding team. Many staff members have been with us for over 10 years, and some for up to 20! Their wealth of experience and high qualifications – including four teachers with bachelor’s degrees – make our service a great choice for your child’s future.

We deliver play-based learning programs with sensory and play-based learning opportunities to instill in children a love for learning.

Our educators speak many languages to enrich your child’s experience and make bilingual families feel at home. We have Nepali, Bengali, Panjabi, Mandarin, Cantonese, Italian, Polish, Vietnamese, Croatian, Urdu, Kannad, Hindi, Tamil, Serbian, and Auslan speakers.

We’re proud to be recognised as an Exceeding service by the accreditation body ACECQA.

Our centre is a cornerstone of our local community. We regularly attend the annual Street Fair, and most of our new enrolments come from family and friend recommendations. So, you know the families around us believe in us and what we provide to the children in our community.

At Goodstart Semaphore South, our philosophy centres around the belief that every child is a unique individual with their own interests and strengths. We embrace a play-based learning approach that nurtures curiosity and creativity, allowing children to explore their world in meaningful ways. 
We prioritise: 
1. Holistic Development: Supporting cognitive, emotional, social, and physical growth through engaging and developmentally appropriate activities. 
2. Family and Community Engagement: Building strong partnerships with families and the community to create a supportive network for each child. 
3. Inclusive Environment: Celebrating diversity and ensuring that all children feel valued, respected, and included. 
4. Lifelong Learning: Instilling a love of learning by encouraging exploration, problem-solving, and critical thinking. 
Through our philosophy, we aim to create a safe, nurturing environment where children can thrive and become confident, capable learners. 
Children need to feel safe and supported to learn and grow, so we promote key educator relationships between our educators and children. Your child will have at least one educator (their key educator) who takes them under their wing and really gets to know them. 
Our Key Educator relationships help children form secure attachments. Educators work closely with smaller groups and individual children to better understand each child. These relationships lead to improved outcomes for children as we foster more communication between families and educators. 
We inform families regularly about their child's progress and welcome family involvement in our centre events and activities.  
At our Semaphore South centre, we're proud to inspire your child's love of learning with the support of our passionate and qualified early childhood experts. Teachers with bachelor's degrees run our preschool program, so children can be well on their way to excellent learning outcomes by the time they start reception.

Senka Jelic

Centre Director

My name is Senka Jelic, and I am the Centre Director for the community at Goodstart Semaphore South.

As educators and advocates for early childhood education, I firmly believe that we are privileged and challenged with the most important job in society - to provide high-quality education that enables every child to see themselves as confident and capable learners.

As a Leader with extensive experience in the profession, I believe it is my role to inspire, encourage and empower every educator to believe in their own potential, which positively impacts the quality of early childhood education provided for our young children and families. Fundamental to my philosophy and pedagogy is that strong and meaningful relationships are the key to creating environments where all members of the community feel a strong sense of belonging and thrive. I look forward to working in partnership with families as you are your child’s first educator and know them best.

On a personal note, outside of work, I enjoy reading, travelling and spending time with my 8-year-old daughter.

I am very excited to be part of your team and look forward to working and reflecting together to ensure Goodstart Semaphore South continues to be a place that enables all children, families and educators to flourish.
