About our centre

Welcome to Goodstart Heidelberg

We love outdoor play and our gourmet chef who prepares amazing food for us to try! We especially love combining them for regular bushwalks and picnics.

If you're looking for early learning that leans into our amazing natural world, you've found it! Our indoor and outdoor activities are designed intentionally to provide a range of learning in the classroom and nature.

• We love adventure and take regular walks and picnics in the lovely area around our centre.

• We want children to learn how to respect and respond to the living world around them, so we often have pets at the centre that the children look after.

• Children learn through experiments, experience, and the opportunity to fail and get messy. If children have mud in their hair or a dirt moustache at pick up but they have a huge smile, that's good for us. I'm sure your child would agree!

One of the best ways to get curious about almost everything is through food, and our chef works with our families to create a gourmet menu. Your children will eat dishes like Tuscan salads with steamed fish for lunch - not a chicken nugget or fish stick in sight!
We share our world with so many other creatures, and sustainability is about learning to recognise how we all work together to care for our environment and communities. Taking care of animals is a great way for children to learn important life skills like:

Children need to feel safe and supported to learn and grow, so we promote Key Educator relationships between our educators and children.

Scott Pope

Centre Director

Hi, I’m Scott Pope and I’m the Centre Director here at Goodstart Heidelberg.

I have been a Centre Director previously for Goodstart in North Queensland before transferring to Melbourne in September 2023. I hold a Diploma of early childhood education and care and have been working in the industry since 2006, having worked as a Lead Educator, Educational Leader and Assistant Director before becoming a Centre Director.

My Early Learning values:
I believe the early years provide the necessary foundations for life, supporting children’s learning through social experiences as they explore the world around them. It is in the environments we create and as educators we support children wholistically as they grow and develop to their fullest potential.

A little more about me:
When I’m not in the centre, you’ll find me walking my dogs, reading in the park and exploring now places top eat out.
