A non-contact rugby league program for children aged two to six years old has been launched at Goodstart Early Learning.
Billy’s Buddies, championed by NRL star Billy Slater, is being offered at more than 10 Goodstart centres throughout Brisbane. And this number is set to grow.
For many of those centres already offering the program, it is fast becoming one of the most popular extracurricular activities for children.
As well as helping to develop gross motor and ball skills, children participating in Billy’s Buddies benefit from learning social and interaction skills while building their confidence, and the importance of being a team player.
For Slater, who started playing rugby league when he was just four years old, this is something he is passionate about. He said he came up with the idea of Billy’s Buddies because, through his own experience, he recognised how much junior league can help with self-esteem and confidence.
He sees the enormous potential for helping children of today’s generation develop these skills.
At Goodstart Early Learning, play-based learning and physically active play are crucial elements of the program. Guided learning activities and physical active play helps children to develop their gross motor skills, balance, hand-eye-coordination and concentration skills.
Goodstart centres offering Billy’s Buddies have high praise for the program and families are also embracing it.
When Goodstart Sinnamon Park reached out to ask children and families at the centre what extracurricular activities they would like to see offered through their service, the feedback was for football, soccer, gymnastics, dance and languages.
Billy’s Buddies is a natural fit for Goodstart – the programs are carried out by professionally trained instructors to ensure children stay safe while having fun and learning new skills.
And, for some lucky children, it’s also an exciting possibility for them to meet one of their footy heroes when Billy makes a special visit.
